Illustrations of People

Overview

Most of the illustrations here are musicians, this is because I love music and find listening to music very inspirational for creativity. Sometimes I will just be listening to a specific artist and just get the urge to illustration them in my free time. Doing these illustrations is something I very much enjoy because it gives me the freedom to be creative and listen to music at the same time.

Outline

First step I take is to use the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator and create a basic outline of the subject. I make sure I outline everything that needs to be filled in with color. It is also important to make sure every path is closed.

Adding Color and Detail

After I have the subject outlined I then start to add color with the live paint feature.

When I fill in each section with color I start to add more detail like eyebrows, shadows, etc to enhance the final illustration.

Mustang Evolution

Objective

For this project I had to illustrate some sort of timeline on a specific topic. I chose to do mine on the Evolution of Ford’s Mustang because it is my favorite car and a very classic, iconic car.

My Interest in Cars

I got into liking cars as a little kid, always begging my parents to buy me a hot wheels at the supermarket or getting the newest Hess toy truck for christmas. I have always like Mustangs and Corvette’s. When I turned 18 I was able to buy a very nice 1999 Mustang convertible. I want to own a Corvette someday but for now, I love my Mustang!

I wanted to illustrate the design of each generation Mustang to show how cool each year was and how far the iconic car has come. So I illustrated each individual generation then brought them together to create the final piece.

Iconic Musician Posters

Objective

The goal for this project was to create posters for some of my favorite music artists that represent them in one simplistic icon that is easy recognizable by someone who listens to their music. Since I am a fan of each of these artists I just thought about what their specific icon could be and illustrated it. To enhance the posters I also decided to use colors that reflect the artists music.

Run-DMC

Run-DMC was can be considered one of the best rap groups in Hip Hop history. They were formed in the 1980’s in Queens, NY. They were known for wearing their black fedora hats. Another part of their iconic outfit was the pair of glasses that Darryl “DMC” McDaniels wore. I decided that Both of those elements, that hat and glasses, could be recognized as Run-DMC.

50 Cent

50 cent is a rapper from Queens, NY. He was originally an actual gangster before he got into the music business. An iconic part about 50 cent is the bulletproof vest that he used to wear to represent his gangsta rap style. I chose to illustrate this because even if you are not a 50 cent fan, you probably know about his background.

Tech n9ne

This was the first poster that I created, mainly because Tech n9ne is one of my favorite artists and is very unique to other rappers. Tech N9ne wears a face mask every time he goes on tour. I decided that this would be the perfect icon to represent his music. I created the mask in Adobe Illustrator and used the red background because it is the same color as his independent record label, Strange Music.

The Defiant Ones (HBO) Poster

About this Piece

HBO came out with a four part documentary series called The Defiant Ones, which goes into the unlikely relationship of Dr. Dre (Hip Hop Producer) and Jimmy Iovine (Founder of Interscope Records) in the music industry.

Style

For this poster I wanted to take some inspiration from the original posters from HBO’s official promotion. The main take away from the documentary was that you can do amazing things as long as you ignore the negativity around you. This is where the  “You Will Never” with the strike through comes in.

Breaking Bad Art Deco Poster

Objective

The main purpose for this piece was to create an Art Deco style poster for a TV show or Movie. I chose AMC’s hit show, Breaking Bad. Art Deco has almost no rounded shapes and is mostly made up of jagged edges.

Inspiration

I drew inspiration from one of the original promotional posters from AMC. I wanted to keep the same kind of feel of the show when designing this poster.

Illustration

After having the initial idea down I got right into Adobe Illustrator and started working. The most important part of this piece was to have Walter White, the main character, recognizable. I used the iconic look he had on the show which was the black pork pie hat, glasses, and goatee.
